Rancid es una banda estadounidense de punk rock formada en Berkeley, California en 1991. Fundada por ex miembros de la banda Operation Ivy, a menudo se le atribuye a Rancid de estar entre la ola de bandas que revivió el interés por el punk rock en los Estados Unidos a mediados de los noventas, durante su carrera, Rancid retuvo gran parte de su base de fans original, la mayoría de los cuales estaban conectados a sus raíces musicales clandestinas.

Rancid ha tenido dos cambios de alineación desde sus inicios, con Tim Armstrong y Matt Freeman como miembros continuos. Su formación actual consiste en Armstrong en guitarra y voz, Freeman en bajo y voz, Lars Frederiksen en guitarra y voz, y Branden Steineckert en batería. 
La banda fue formada por Armstrong, Freeman y el ex baterista Brett Reed, quien dejó la banda en 2006 y fue reemplazado por Steineckert. Esta formación grabó su primer álbum, con Frederiksen uniéndose a la banda en su gira posterior.
Hasta la fecha, Rancid ha lanzado nueve álbumes de estudio, un álbum dividido, una compilación, dos reproducciones extendidas y una serie de álbumes en vivo solo en línea, y ha aparecido en varios álbumes recopilatorios, la banda ha vendido más de cuatro millones de discos en todo el mundo, lo que la convierte en uno de los grupos de punk rock más exitosos de todos los tiempos. 
La banda saltó a la fama en 1994 con su segundo álbum de estudio, Let's Go, con el sencillo "Salvation". Al año siguiente, Rancid lanzó su exitoso álbum ... And Out Come the Wolves, que produjo sus canciones más conocidas "Roots Radicals", "Ruby Soho" y "Time Bomb", y fue certificado oro y platino por la RIAA, vendiendo más de un millón de copias solo en los Estados Unidos. 

Sus siguientes cinco álbumes, Life Won't Wait (1998), Rancid (2000), Indestructible (2003), Let the Dominoes Fall (2009) y ... Honor Is All We Know (2014), también fueron aclamados por la crítica, aunque no tan exitoso como ... And Out Come the Wolves, su álbum de estudio más reciente, Trouble Maker, fue lanzado el 9 de junio de 2017 y actualmente están trabajando en un álbum de seguimiento.
