La banda indie británica The Coral se formó en 1996 en Hoylake, una localidad costera cercana a Liverpool, Inglaterra. El grupo estaba compuesto por James Skelly (voz y guitarra), Lee Southall (guitarra y coros), Nick Power (teclado y coros), Paul Duffy (bajo y saxofón), Ian Skelly (batería) y Bill Ryder-Jones (guitarra y coros).

The Coral comenzó a tocar en vivo en la escena local de Liverpool, y rápidamente atrajo la atención de los sellos discográficos. En 2002, firmaron con Deltasonic Records y lanzaron su álbum debut, "The Coral", el cual obtuvo excelentes críticas y les valió una nominación al Mercury Prize. El álbum incluía sencillos como "Dreaming of You" y "Goodbye", que alcanzaron posiciones importantes en las listas de éxitos británicas.

El segundo álbum de la banda, "Magic and Medicine" (2003), también tuvo un gran éxito en el Reino Unido, incluyendo el sencillo número uno "In the Morning". The Coral continuó lanzando álbumes a lo largo de los años, incluyendo "Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker" (2004), "The Invisible Invasion" (2005), "Roots & Echoes" (2007) y "Butterfly House" (2010).

A lo largo de su carrera, The Coral ha sido reconocido por su estilo único que combina elementos de rock psicodélico, ska y pop con letras poéticas y melodías pegajosas. La banda ha tocado en importantes festivales de música como Glastonbury y Reading, y ha compartido escenario con bandas como The Charlatans y The Zutons. En 2016, la banda se tomó un descanso y en 2019 regresaron con un nuevo álbum "Move through the dawn" seguido de "Coral Island" en 2021.
